IEEE-USA shares space with the IEEE Computer Society in the IEEE Washington office located at 2001 L Street, N.W., Suite 700 in Washington, DC. If you are planning a trip to Washington and have a meeting or would like to visit the IEEE’s DC offices, this page will help you with your preparations.
Local Accommodations
There are a large number of hotel options representing most hotel chains within walking distance of our office or convenient to Metro, including lodging options near National Airport (Blue/Orange Line Metro) and Dulles Int’l Airport (Silver Line). You can check for other Washington accommodation options through online services such as:
One thing to note is that room rates will vary widely from day to day and week to week. In Washington, especially during the Summer tourist months, the Cherry Blossom festival in the Spring, and during special conference, political, social or sporting events, room rates and availability reflect the high demand. At the same time, it is often possible to bargain for lower rates during off-peak/low occupancy periods. In many cases, you will find you can get a better rate using a federal employee, AARP, or other discount.
Travel to Washington
Three major airports — Reagan National (DCA), Dulles Int’l (IAD) and Baltimore-Washington Int’l (BWI) all provide air transportation convenient to the Washington Metropolitan area. Reagan National is the closest to downtown and provides direct Metro access (via the Blue/Yellow lines, transfer to Red Line). Dulles airport is linked to Metro’s Silver Line, providing a direct connection between DC and Dulles. Travelers arriving at BWI can catch the airport shuttle to the BWI Amtrak station and take an Amtrak or MARC train to DC’s Union Station, with access Metro’s Red Line, or take the BWI Express (B30) bus from the airport to the Greenbelt Metro Station (Green/Yellow Line). The BWI Express Bus runs every 60 minutes on M-F between 6:55 a.m. and 9:33 p.m. An Uber/Lyft ride from Dulles and BWI to most downtown locations typically requires 45-60 minutes at a cost of $65-90. Car rental may also be an option. Limited parking is available at 2001 L Street, N.W. at a rate of $15 for early entry (before 9:30 a.m.) or $19 for the day (or hourly at $12 per hour). Parking is also available on similar terms at most adjacent office buildings on the L, 18th and 19th Street corridors. Street parking options are very limited and should not be relied upon.
IEEE members are encouraged to make their travel arrangements through the IEEE Concurs Travel Program.
Travel by Washington Metro
The Washington Metro subway and bus system is an inexpensive and convenient means to reach most destinations in Washington and the surrounding suburbs of Maryland and Northern Virginia. Metro serves Washington National Airport, Dulles International Airport and Union Station (Amtrak rail service). Amtrak connects Baltimore Washington International Airport with the Union Station Metro.
The IEEE-USA Washington office is located just a short walk from either the Farragut North (Red Line) or Farragut West (Blue & Orange Line) Metro stations. You can get complete Metro rail and bus information from the Washington Metro-Area Transit Authority.
The Washington Post also makes available information on the Metro System, including down-loadable maps and a station-finder.
